Who is this course for?

This 5-hour online distance learning workshop is for ALL clinicians - Play Therapists, EMDR Therapists, and Non-EMDR Therapists alike. Only approved EMDR therapists will receive EMDRIA credit and must submit their EMDR Training certificate.

This course will develop clinical competence in using EMDR Resourcing and Play therapy techniques to help children regulate and stabilize through didactic presentations, demonstrations, and video. It is important to understand the cause of a children’s dysregulation to help them regulate so they may safely process trauma and function in daily life. We will review brain function and the impact of attachment and trauma on dysregulation as well as the roles of relationship, education, and communication in regulation. Understanding why a child is dysregulated is important in selecting an appropriate/effective calming skill. A variety of play based stabilization and resourcing methods for children and parents will be explored, demonstrated, and practiced. The goal of this workshop is to help clinicians feel competent helping children learn emotional and physical regulation through an understanding of the cause of the dysregulation and behaviors so the appropriate skills and resources can be utilized.

  • Identify 3 ways to identify reasons for Avoidance and Resistance

  • Recognize the importance of therapist self-regulation

  • Describe the brain using the hand as a model

  • Use reflective listening to help children regulate and learn ways to develop emotional education

  • Interpret what children are communicating through difficult dysregulated behaviors

  • Identify 3 playful methods to help clients emotionally regulate 


  • Demonstrate 3 playful resourcing exercises for adaptive coping skills

  • Recognize Resources for attachment and learn how to teach children to "tap it in" for resources

  • Describe building a resource team

  • Apply grounding techniques to prevent dissociation

As a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor, Roxanne has additional expertise in using EMDR and play therapy with children and can teach you to use EMDR and play therapy with even your youngest clients.

Cancellations

Cancellations must be received in writing. The full amount minus a $30.00 service fee may be refunded up until 30 days prior to commencement of the training. Due to the small size of the training and the time commitment, no refunds, credits or accommodations will be made after that time. Last minute attendance possible if space available.
